Tash Tish Tosh Part III

Is it my imagination or is it every time we visit Tash Tish Tosh, the food keeps better and better?
Since our last review, they have actually shifted operations from Onan Road over to Alibabar in Katong. Well, you'll be glad to know that the change in location has not lowered the standard of the food being served!

And when the Hungry Go Where Guest Instagrammer project came along, we knew it was time to visit TTT once again in search of Halal pasta!

White Star ($14.90 for 9-inch / $19.90 for 12-inch)
You're probably thinking back to our last post on TTT and saying to yourself "Eh... I thought you all already makan this White Star pizza... The one with the Shittake Mushrooms right?"
Well, you're right to say it's the same pizza but with one major difference!

In our last post, we showed you how thick the dough was for the pizzas at TTT.
Well, they've decided to make a change...

YEAH!!! THIN CRUST!!!
All pizzas at TTT now come in a thin crust which is the bomb! It's still ooey gooey and it's still plenty tasty but you won't need to have a chewing battle with the dough anymore. Important to note it's not a crispy thin crust but still a thin crust nonetheless.

Mr Porno obviously agrees with the decision as you can see.

Allo Allo ($8.90)
We decided to try the pasta at TTT for the first time and we started with a classic Alio Oglio which was renamed and jazzed up with some chicken ham and shittake mushrooms. And yes! Those are chilli padi slices waiting for you to chomp down!

But don't worry it's not that spicy. But it is pretty filling being pasta and all.
And does anyone else get the pun with the name? (Think British comedy!!)

Beef Carbo ($8.90)
You might remember this from our Guest Instagrammer feature spot on HungryGoWhere. Definitely the first pasta of its kind that we've sampled I can tell you that much.

A creamy based pasta with asparagus and beef bacon. Haven't seen that combination anywhere else I'll say that. Definitely unique! Generous serving with everything on the plate so prepare to be stuffed!

But no matter how stuffed we are...

We'll always have space for the famous TTT Buffalo Wings aka THE BOMB
Adam's Verdict:
White Star 4.5/5 -- Allo Allo 2.5/5 -- Beef Carbo 3.5/5 -- Buffalo Wings 5/5

Azlan's Verdict:
White Star 4/5 -- Beef Carbo 3/5 -- Buffalo Wings 5/5

Raffiq's Verdict:
White Star 3/5 -- Buffalo Wings 4/5

A more laid back environment at the new location so you can go and lepak with your friends and family and have a chillax time-out. Buffalo Wings mau lebih!!

PS check out their new and improved menus! Complete with quote from The Halal Food Blog!
Hebat!!

And don't forget to check out the article at HungryGoWhere.com for the 5 Halal pasta dishes you MUST try featuring TTT!

Ramadhan Special 2014: Gourmet Pizza To Go

So Mein Brudder and me actually passed by this shop in Bedok. It was a new pizza joint with some really power looking pizzas (and they were HUGE too!). But this was the week before Ramadhan and no way we would have enough time to try it before then so we decided to make it a point to try it once Hari Raya was over.

But lo and behold. My Darling Wife and I were walking along Geylang Serai Bazaar and I see this giant signage! Looks like we would not have to wait til after Raya after all!

Now do you see what we meant when we said HUGE?
And we were lucky enough that they were constructing a brand new pizza as we waited!!

First the base...
And then the cheese...
And last but not least - the toppings!!
So you see that they construct it from scratch here at the stall and that means it's gotta be fresh!
They dress it up there and they even have this special oven there so they can bake their pizzas and have nice and fresh and hot for us.

And more luck for us... a pizza coming out fresh!

Oh yeah a nice piping hot pizza pie!! Doesn't that just look yummy or what!
And I know how you all love Hawaiian pizza okay don't bluff...

But looks nice only... How about the taste??? Nice and cheesy?
Well, The Halal Food Blog proudly presents...

The 4 Steps To Enjoying a Pizza

Step 1 - Get your slice of pizza
Step 2 - Unwrap and let the awesomeness sink in
Step 3 - Bring the slice to your mouth and take a big chomp
Step 4 - Pull away, see the gooey cheese and go "Mmmmm"
So how? Not bad right? I'm sure you guys have already mastered the technique... Hehehe

Firstly let me again say how big this slice of pizza is. Sure it's cut into a shape we may not be used to for a pizza but you won't be complaining when you see how much pizza you're gonna be enjoying.
The toppings are generous (at least for the Hawaiian) and you can see they are definitely not stingy with the cheese. And have we mentioned how big it is?

The pizza is tasty enough but (like most things) we recommend eating it while it's hot!!

A slice will cost you about $6 but buy two for $10.
If you plan to buy a whole pizza, maybe you should call their hotline to deliver...

Al Taglio Pizza ($65)

You can order their Al Taglio Pizza which is a party on its own I'm telling you.
It's 60cm by 40cm. That's right. You go and measure and tell me if that's big or not.

It's so big that you can choose different types of pizza flavours and they'll combine it for you.
Perfect when you have some people who prefer one type of pizza while another group maybe prefers another type!! Smart right!!

You can call their hotline 6221 1666 or visit their website www.gourmetpizzatogo.com.sg

They've got 11 types of pizzas to choose from so you'll be spoilt for choice.
We haven't tried it yet. Just the Hawaiian for now. But we'll try it after Raya Insya Allah!

You can find the stall at the Geylang Bazaar just after you cross the street (Onan Road) from Mr Teh Tarik heading to Darul Arqam.

Domino's Pizza

So for pizza delivery chains, I've covered RITE Pizza, Canadian 2-for-1, Sarpino's, Pezzo and even Pizza Hut's Signature series. Now I'm adding another to the list!

Domino's is actually really popular but I guess maybe we don't really know the scale because they don't really put too much into advertising? I mean, how often do you see a TV commercial for Domino's Pizza am I right?

Domino's actually started out in America so I guess they've got the classic American pizza image going on for themselves.

But through advertising with flyers and word of mouth, Domino's still manages to have quite a big following through good pizza and also what they boast as the best delivery ever - 30 minute delivery!

Classic Pepperoni

As always, I like me a bit of Pepperoni when I have pizza. I know there are always plenty of other flavours to choose from and just Pepperoni can be considered a bit boring maybe?

As you can see, the Pepperoni slices at Domino's are the big type and not that mini-sized Pepperoni you might get at other pizza places. They are pretty thick too so you get a nice bite when you take a nice big chomp. The Pepperoni is beef by the way in case you were wondering.

Top that off with a nice layer of Mozzarella cheese and you have a great pizza!!

Simply Cheese

I think a lot of people are probably going "Wah! Your pizza choices so boring!!".
But hey what can I say. We've got simple tastes! :P

Actually, to be honest, I really love cheese and I really love cheese pizzas but I seldom get the chance to order because the majority will always order something like Hawaiian or some Meat Lovers thing and of course an All-Cheese pizza will most likely be left out so let me say I was really happy that I finally got the chance to order myself a cheese pizza!!

Domino's version has Mozarella and Parmesan cheese topped off with some Oregano. I know some other pizza places have like 5-cheese pizzas but this is a good pizza and a good start!

Both pizzas above are actually tomato sauce-based. The tomato sauce is generous but it does not overpower the taste/flavour of the toppings because it's not as sour as we might be used to.

Domino's also has some non-tomato sauce based pizzas for you to choose from. They have like 6 sauces for you to choose from! Then you have to choose from a really big selection of pizzas ranging from their All-Time Favourites Range, Classics and First Class. They have some interesting and even some really extravagant pizzas to choose from.

And of course, there's also the matter of the type of crust!!

Domino's is quite famous for their thin crust pizzas and you can see why...
When they say thin crust, they REALLY mean thin crust!! Nice and crisp too!

But if you're not a fan and want more bite, you can also choose the Classic Hand Tossed, New York Crust, Cheese Burst and the Cheesy Crust.

And what about pricing?

Adam's Verdict:
Classic Pepperoni 3.5/5 -- Simply Cheese 4/5

Azlan's Verdict:
Classic Pepperoni 3.5/5 -- Simply Cheese 3.5/5

Mein Brudder thought it was nothing special probably because he's used to ordering more fantastical pizza choices compared to these 'boring' 2 here. But overall you can see it's not too bad actually.

Best thing for you to do is check out their website and take a look at all the choices you have.
Sauce. Crust. Pizza choice. Take your time. I can tell you I'll probably be ordering from them a few times during this World Cup season!

And if they deliver your pizza later than the promised timing of 30 mins, you get a voucher to use for your next order with them!

Pizza Hut Signature Series - Pesto Gusto & Wild About Mushrooms

So my darling wife and I were headed home from a check-up one day and we decided to grab some makan before making our way back home. We were actually at a loss and didn't know what to eat.
And then we remembered something special cooking at Pizza Hut.

The Pizza Hut Signature Series is a special range of pizzas which features a special "hand-stretched thin crust" topped with some special toppings for our makan delight.

They had 5 special pizzas.
We decided to try the 2 which seemed like the ones we would enjoy the most.

Pesto Gusto

Pesto Gusto is a pesto-based pizza. It also includes BBQ chicken slices, cherry tomatoes and also almond flakes. And of course - Cheese!

Well, this definitely counts as a unique pizza created specially for this Signature Series but I'm not so sure I quite enjoyed it... I guess the pesto base was not bad and a change from the usual tomato sauce-based pizzas we are so accustomed to. Maybe that's what the cherry tomatoes were for?

I personally felt that the worse part of this pizza was the BBQ chicken slices.
They were pretty tasteless and were actually sliced a little bit too thick maybe?

Wild About Mushrooms

Now this was definitely a pizza I quite preferred.
Most probably because I am literally Wild About Mushrooms!

Here you have a cream-based pizza with truffled mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, arugula (aka rocket).
This pizza actually has 3 of my fave things to eat - mushrooms, cheese and Arugula.
I am so the Mushrooms and Arugula guy by the way.

The mushrooms did have a hint of the truffle oil and definitely had a nice woody and earthy flavour to them. I quite like them this way but I can imagine a few who might not enjoy such a strong mushroom flavour. Again the cherry tomatoes did nothing for me and the cream base went well.

But I must say... A little stingy with the Rocket are we eh Pizza Hut???

Okay so anyways between the 2 pizzas it was actually not too bad.
You can also choose Seafood Symphony (Scallops, Prawns and Squid), Tropical Dream (Chicken Ham, Pineapple and Cream Cheese) or Pumpkin Garden (Pumpkin, Shimeji mushrooms and Cream Cheese).

But there's something else I'd like to point out...

Hand-stretched is one thing but I thought they said this was gonna be a THIN CRUST???
That doesn't look very thin to me buddy.

Adam's Verdict:
Pesto Gusto 2/5 --  Wild About Mushrooms 3/5
Maryah's Verdict:
Pesto Gusto 2.5/5
You can order a meal for 2 which comes with a pizza plus some extras for $28.
A meal for 4 is $48 or you can order the Hand-stretched pizzas a la carte for $19.90.

21 On Rajah

Advertorial

Singaporeans love to eat and what better place than a buffet!
When someone mentions Halal-certified buffets in Singapore, I'm guessing you would probably be able to come up with a list of places to visit. In fact, you can find some of those names right here on our blog.

Well, we have some really great news...
You can now add one more name to that list - 21 On Rajah!!

That's right - we're jumping for joy too!!
Situated along Balestier Road, Days Hotel At Zhongshan Park is a modern-looking hotel. If you've never had a reason to visit it before, well now you do!

21 On Rajah has just recently been certified Halal by MUIS and it offers not only a nice buffet spread but also some very tempting Ala Carte menu choices as well. We were invited to have a taste of their delectable buffet spread and have a taste of some of their signature dishes as well.

And like all our buffet posts, we're gonna run down individual items later but let's give you a sneak peek at what the spread actually has in store for you... Let's start with the Salads and Appetizers...

D.I.Y Salad Station
Mozzarella Cheese and Tomatoes
Potato Salad
Grilled Mixed Vegetable Antipasto
Smoked Salmon
Salad Nicoise with Tuna Tataki
Assorted Sushi
They also have a station where you can mix up your own Rojak!

Rojak Station
Rojak!
Besides the salads and appetizers, they also have a nice spread of Cold Seafood that includes Green Mussles, Snow Crab Claws, Scallops, Tiger Prawns and even LOBSTER!!

The Cold Seafood Spread
Lobsters
Tiger Prawns
Scallops
Mushroom Soup
They also have a selection of Cheeses and Bread for us to enjoy.
And of course, there'll always be an offering of soup at any buffet spread. When we visited this time, it was one of our all-time favourites (and probably yours too?) - Mushroom Soup!

The soup may have been a little light on the texture but I really enjoyed it.
You get a nice earthy mushroom flavour and for those who really enjoy that, you're gonna enjoy this soup.
Enjoy with a nice warm roll to complete the dish!

I would have had more but I was planning to stuff myself with so many other things I decided to go slow :P

And then we come to the Mains...
21 On Rajah actually has a good mix of Mediterranean and Asian delights. One of the Restaurant Managers actually described it as a 'Meditter-asian' theme which I thought was very fitting because you can really see the eclectic mix of food ranging from Asian (Chilli Crab-style Crayfish, Laksa, Rojak, Sushi etc) to Mediterranean and European (Italian-style dishes like Pasta and Antipasto, Braised Lamb Shank etc).

I think I'll let the picture do more of the talking... And the tempting!

Nasi Goreng
Kung Pao Style Chicken
Slipper Lobster Singapore Chilli Crab Style
Fried Mantou Buns
That's right! They have a Chilli Crab-style dish with Slipper Lobsters and complete with the Fried Mantou Buns!! I have to say that this is not really the kind of dish you would expect to enjoy at a Hotel Buffet but this was actually pretty good!

If you're like me and don't want to make such a big mess, just enjoy mopping up the delicious Chilli Crab gravy with the buns! Yummy!

Slow Baked Salmon with Mustard Cream Sauce
Spinach Ravioli
Sauteed Asparagus and Carrots
Braised Lamb Shank
Gratin Potato
Roasted Prime Beef Ribeye
Shallot Jus Sauce
What I felt was the real star of the buffet spread was the Roasted Prime Beef Ribeye.
Just look at the delicious slab of meat there calling out to you... "Eat me.... EAT ME!". ZOMG.

As you may very well know by now - I loves me some meat. And when you have a buffet line where there's a guy waiting to carve out some meat for you - it's a win-win-win-win trust me.

And the meat itself? Roasted to perfection!
You have a nice crispy char on the outer layer and medium-well done for most of that part. And when you get to the middle, a nice pink medium-rare awaits you. How can you resist!
If you're like me and prefer it to be less pink, just let the guy know and they'll char it a little bit more for you on the pan. Finish off with some Shallot Jus Sauce!!

And now we have some pictures of the food that we dished out for ourselves... There are a lot more but only had time to snap these few because we spent the rest of the time wolfing down the food!!

Mozzarella Cheese and Tomatoes
I'm a big fan of cheese but not so much of tomatoes to be honest. But I totally enjoyed this. Even the tomatoes! The cheese taste is not so overwhelming and the tomatoes were really firm and fresh. It was a very nice and refreshing start to our meal!

Grilled Mixed Vegetable Antipasto
Smoked Salmon
Potato Salad
I guess I'm a sucker for these kinds of European appetizers.
Smoked Salmon is an automatic yes for me every single time because I really love it. I guess that's something I picked up from my Dad. And the quality here is top notch.

The Grilled Mixed Vegetable Antipasto is roasted peppers, zucchini and aubergines and has a very nice and robust flavour to it.

The Potato Salad is not your usual type of Potato Salad and you can even have it as a side when you have your meat dishes like the Roasted Prime Beef Ribeye or even the Braised Lamb Shank.

Salad Nicoise with Tuna Tataki
Those who love Tuna will enjoy this dish.
Lightly-seared Tuna which has a black pepper crust paired with peppers, potatoes and quail eggs.
Just remember that the black pepper crust will give you quite a kick :)

Slow Baked Salmon with Mustard Cream Sauce
Gratin Potato
Braised Lamb Shank
ZOMG the Lamb Shank is the bomb.
I heard some people even picked up with the whole bone and started chomping down and I don't blame them!! But I'm shy so I just tore off some meat :P

Spinach Ravioli
Besides just being the Meat Guy, I'm apparently also the Pasta Guy. All the more if it's creamy!
I really really really really really really really really really really enjoyed the Spinach Ravioli. If you enjoy creamy pasta, you'll definitely enjoy this too!

PS have I mentioned that I really enjoyed the Spinach Ravioli?

NO CAGE CAN HOLD BACK OUR APPETITES!
Okay. More like 'No cage can hold back our gluttony' to be more exact :P

21 On Rajah also has a nice Desserts spread including fruits, fondue, Asian and Western desserts!
If you still have space after the mains, take your pick!!

Fresh Tropical Fruits

Carrot Cake
Cheesecake
Profiteroles (with Lemon Curd Filling)
Asian Nyonya Kueh
Dark Chocolate Fondue
Bread & Butter Pudding with Dates (and Vanilla Sauce)
As you can see, quite a lot to choose from!
In fact, they had more desserts like Panna Cotta and even mini-desserts which are served up in shot glasses.
I took a few but whacked them before I got a chance to snap some pictures. Oops. :P

Juices
The 'Juice Bar'
Something we found very unique was this 'Juice Bar' set up where you can have your choice of Orange, Lime or Cranberry Juices and then you can mix it up as you see fit!

You can top it off with some fizzy drinks like Ginger Ale, Tonic Water or Sprite and then add some fruits like Strawberries, Pineapple, Kiwi and you can even add some Mint Leaves!

Something very unique that we've not seen at any other buffet so far! :)

But do keep in mind that from what we understand, there are up to 5 menus which are on rotation throughout the week so it's best to call and check if you want a rundown on what's being served when you visit.

You might very well enjoy some of the stuff we've posted here but then again you might enjoy something else that we didn't get a chance to try!

Buffet Prices:
Breakfast - $18.00++ (Adult) / $9.00++ Child
Semi-Buffet Lunch - $15.00++ (Buffet only) / $10.00++ (with any main course ordered)
Dinner (Mondays to Thursdays) - $32.00++ (Adult) / $16.00++ (Child)
Dinner (Fridays to Sundays, Eve and PH) - $35.00++ (Adult) / $17.50++ (Child)
Sunday Brunch - $38.00++ (Adult) / $19.00++ (Child)

The buffet at 21 On Rajah is really good value for money! You get quite a nice spread of food and definitely some favourites there so you know you'll be able to concentrate on eating just the stuff you like.

Besides the buffet, 21 On Rajah also has an ala carte menu which boasts Mediterranean favourites such as Paella, Poitrine de Poulet and also Asian delights like Chicken Curry 'Singapore Style' and Nonya Laksa.
If you want to have a taste of both worlds, then maybe you can consider trying their Semi-Buffet Lunch where you can have an ala carte dish plus still get to sample the buffet spread!

And some more good news!
When you go for the Sunday Brunch, they have a supervised activity corner for the kids! This means you can relax and catch up with friends and family after the little ones have had their fill!!

We'll definitely be visiting 21 On Rajah again to sample their ala carte menu.
But the buffet is so tempting we might end up having both.

And a special shout-out to Izad and Hana who are also fellow foodies!
Check out their blog (www.izadnhana.com/blog) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/izadnhana#)
Maybe we can all go makan together again!
