Pizza Hut - Squid Ink Linguine & Traditional Bolognaise

Yeah okay we know. Kinda unexpected to suddenly post about Pizza Hut when it's not a special item like the last time we posted on their special Hand-stretched Signature Series.

But hey. We passed by a Pizza Hut and ate there so we figured we'd post it.
After all, we love to eat right?

Squid Ink Lunguine ($15.50)
Okay I have to be perfectly honest and say this is not what I was expecting at all.
When I see pictures of Squid Ink pasta dishes, the squid ink is normally incorporated into the pasta during the actual making of the pasts which results in a black-coloured noodle.

I had no idea that sometimes, the squid ink was made into the sauce!
It was so unbelievable to me that I had to ask a few 'experts' who worked in restaurants that served Squid Ink pasta to confirm it. Yeah I know I'm a jakun. Anyways I'm not sure why I was making such a big deal about it since it was Mein Bruder who ordered it.

The sauce was very 'lemak' because of the cream but kinda lacked any seasoning. Maybe a little bit more could have been added to the sauce to give it some taste instead of just relying on the black squid ink.

There were some prawns and slices of squid to go along to for an extra bite by the way.
And a word of advice - the stuff stains your mouth and teeth so be sure to wipe to avoid any possible embarassment!

When they say Black Squid Ink, they mean BLACK Squid Ink!!
Traditional Bolognaise ($11.50)
I went for a safer bet and had the Traditional Bolognaise (said in my best Italiano accent).
Yeah I know. Kinda boring right? But I guess I just felt like going the traditional route for lunch.

The Bolognaise was pretty standard and it comes with 3 (kinda small) beef meatballs.
Serving was just nice for 1 and made for a pretty hearty meal. Meatballs were nice too and reminded me of the meatballs at Swensen's but without the black pepper kick.

Adam's Verdict:
Traditional Bolognaise 3/5

Azlan's Verdict:
Squid Ink Linguine  3/5

All in all a pretty standard set at Pizza Hut. I guess technically it's still fast food right?
A great tip is to go during lunch so you can have the Lunch Set Meals.

The cost between $9.90 and $13.90 (depending on your choice of dish) and comes with soup and a drink too! Well worth it! And for the record, the Traditional Bolognaise was part of the $9.90 set and the Squid Ink Linguine was part of the $13.92 set.

Ramadhan Special 2013: Nasi Tomato

Hey everyone! Just a quickie here for you.
We received an email from Lynn a few days ago to recommend some Nasi Tomato!

Apparently there's a stall in Bedok that is selling Nasi Tomato that Lynn says is "uber delicious" (aka The Bomb in my language) but it's only going to be offered during this fasting month period. Since there was only like about a week to go, I figured I'd better make my way down ASAP!

Nasi Tomato with Daging Rendang ($5.00)
Now that's a pretty picture isn't it?

So anyways this is a special set-up in front of an actual stall called Nur Indah's Kitchen/Abang Wan's Roti John at the market in Bedok North (across the road from the Bedok Stadium) and it's only going to be around until this weekend (4th August) before they pack it up.

They have quite a number of special dishes on offer including Briyani, Ayam Penyet and even Mee Bakso but I was there to sample Lynn's recommendation - Nasi Tomato!

The picture above was taken just after I got the food which was freshly packed after I ordered.

You actually have a choice of what you'd like to go with your Nasi Tomato, Firstly it's either beef or chicken and then you decide which style of meat you'd like.

For example, you have Rendang or Briyani style for the beef and you have briyani or masak merah style for the chicken.

On top of the rice and meat, you'll also get some dalcha and some acar as well. Two types of acar for you to choose from. It's either the Acar Timun you get with Briyani or the Acar Tomato seen in the picture above.

A word of advice though - remind them to separate the meat and acar from the rice since you'll need to keep it for quite awhile before iftar time.

The beef and chicken were actually pretty nice! Well cooked and tasty. The chicken in particular was very flavourful and not over-cooked. The beef was good but the portion was a little small (for a meat lover like myself of course). The dalcha went well with the dish and definitely packed a punch in terms of flavour.

The tomato rice itself was a little hard though. This might be due to the fact that we had to keep it and then eat it later maybe? I bought it at around 1pm and kept it in the fridge before heating it up via 'kukus' method just before iftar time. Not sure if that was the cause of it?

Anyways if you're not fussy like me then you will have no problems. The rice was tasty and definitely worthy of a recommendation (unless you don't like hard rice of course).

Adam's Verdict:
Nasi Tomato Daging Rendang 2.5/5 -- Nasi Tomato Daging Rendang 3/5

I've actually only had Nasi Tomato one other time which is when my Dad cooked it at home.
I hear it's really actually quite troublesome to make for some reason so if you can find a good one, you should definitely try it.

But just remember - you only have 3 more days til the stall closes on 4 August!
Thanks to Lynn for the recommendation! Keep them coming in guys!

Canadian 2 For 1 Pizza

CANADIAN PIZZA! 2.. for.. 1... JENG!!
CANADIAN PIZZA! 2.. for.. 1... JENG!!

Love that commercial.
Seriously.

So we wrote about RITE Pizza before and then we went on to Sarpino's.
And now it's time for one of the originals - Canadian Pizza!

I remember back then you could only get pizza delivered from one place - Pizza Hut.
And then in the late 90s, Canadian 2-for-1 Pizza appeared on the scene and what a massive impact!
Not only another Halal pizza joint with delivery but offering 2 pizzas for the price of 1!

Well they have definitely grown since then and expanded their menu.
Now serving at least 26 different types of pizzas and other items like pasta, lasagna, chicken wings and even Shepard's Pie among other things, Canadian Pizza has definitely cemented its place in Singapore as one of the leaders in pizza delivery.

In fact, they even have expanded to a dine-in set-up as well...
Hmmm maybe it's time to check it out.

Hawaiian Pizza

Meat Lover
Who can resist a nice piping hot pizza?!

So you have a choice of ordering 3 different sizes;
Regular (10") for $23.90, Medium (12") for $31.90 or Extra Large (14") for $37.90.
So for that price, you get TWO pizzas!

And as you can see from the pictures above, they are very generous with the toppings!
Turkey Ham, Pineapple and 2 different types of cheese on the Hawaiian.
Minced Beef, Pepperoni, Salami,Turkey Ham and Italian sausage on the Meat Lovers.
If your mouth is not watering yet, click HERE for the full menu and descriptions.

Adam's Verdict:
Hawaiian Pizza 3/5 -- Meat Lover 4/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Hawaiian Pizza 3.5/5 -- Meat Lover 3.5/5

And it's not always the case, but this time, there was something wrong with the pizzas.
I'm not sure if it was a newbie making the pizzas or they were in a rush but they didn't cook it long enough so the bottom of the pizza didn't crisp up and turned soggy because of the tomato sauce.
This meant lots of dripping when you lift up your pizza slice.

But like I said, seldom happens.
And I hope it never happens again. Ever.
