Ramadhan Special 2014: Gourmet Pizza To Go

So Mein Brudder and me actually passed by this shop in Bedok. It was a new pizza joint with some really power looking pizzas (and they were HUGE too!). But this was the week before Ramadhan and no way we would have enough time to try it before then so we decided to make it a point to try it once Hari Raya was over.

But lo and behold. My Darling Wife and I were walking along Geylang Serai Bazaar and I see this giant signage! Looks like we would not have to wait til after Raya after all!

Now do you see what we meant when we said HUGE?
And we were lucky enough that they were constructing a brand new pizza as we waited!!

First the base...
And then the cheese...
And last but not least - the toppings!!
So you see that they construct it from scratch here at the stall and that means it's gotta be fresh!
They dress it up there and they even have this special oven there so they can bake their pizzas and have nice and fresh and hot for us.

And more luck for us... a pizza coming out fresh!

Oh yeah a nice piping hot pizza pie!! Doesn't that just look yummy or what!
And I know how you all love Hawaiian pizza okay don't bluff...

But looks nice only... How about the taste??? Nice and cheesy?
Well, The Halal Food Blog proudly presents...

The 4 Steps To Enjoying a Pizza

Step 1 - Get your slice of pizza
Step 2 - Unwrap and let the awesomeness sink in
Step 3 - Bring the slice to your mouth and take a big chomp
Step 4 - Pull away, see the gooey cheese and go "Mmmmm"
So how? Not bad right? I'm sure you guys have already mastered the technique... Hehehe

Firstly let me again say how big this slice of pizza is. Sure it's cut into a shape we may not be used to for a pizza but you won't be complaining when you see how much pizza you're gonna be enjoying.
The toppings are generous (at least for the Hawaiian) and you can see they are definitely not stingy with the cheese. And have we mentioned how big it is?

The pizza is tasty enough but (like most things) we recommend eating it while it's hot!!

A slice will cost you about $6 but buy two for $10.
If you plan to buy a whole pizza, maybe you should call their hotline to deliver...

Al Taglio Pizza ($65)

You can order their Al Taglio Pizza which is a party on its own I'm telling you.
It's 60cm by 40cm. That's right. You go and measure and tell me if that's big or not.

It's so big that you can choose different types of pizza flavours and they'll combine it for you.
Perfect when you have some people who prefer one type of pizza while another group maybe prefers another type!! Smart right!!

You can call their hotline 6221 1666 or visit their website www.gourmetpizzatogo.com.sg

They've got 11 types of pizzas to choose from so you'll be spoilt for choice.
We haven't tried it yet. Just the Hawaiian for now. But we'll try it after Raya Insya Allah!

You can find the stall at the Geylang Bazaar just after you cross the street (Onan Road) from Mr Teh Tarik heading to Darul Arqam.

Ramadhan Special 2014: Chef Andi's Kueh Lapis

I know this guy. His name is Andi. And he's a chef.
He's been a chef for a long time and I can tell you this - his cakes are delicious!

Well, to be honest I'd only had his 'Western' cakes in the past. I'd visit his cafe and bakery and whatever I had was always delicious (especially his Lemon Majari cake!!). I mean, this guy even baked me a birthday cake once and it was awesome!

But when he told me he was gonna be baking Kueh Lapis, it was quite a surprise.
Let's be hones - Western cakes and Malay Kueh are two totally different stories am I right... Just because you're good at one does that mean you're definitely gonna be good at the other?

Well, in this case, the answer is - YES!!

Original
Prune
Pandan
Mixed Fruit
Coffee
The Kueh Lapis was really good!!
Even my Mum loved it and that's a big deal because she's very particular about Kueh Lapis.

The Lapis was soft and so full of flavour. You can go for the Original of course if that's your thing.
And you can see how generous he is with the Prunes! My personal favourite is actually the Mixed Fruit... cos I love Candied Fruit. Seriously.

Prices are as follows;
Original / Pandan / Coffee (1kg) - $45.00
Prune / Mixed Fruit (1kg) - $50.00

I know there are a lot of 'Home Bakers' around now and I know some of them are pretty good. Well this guy is pretty good too. Perfect timing to order for Ramadhan but you'd better order fast before he reaches his order limit. (I already have a head start cos I ordered 5 LOL)

And Chef Andi has a special offer to readers of The Halal Food Blog!!
When you place your order, give him the password 'The Halal Food Blog Ramadhan Special' and he'll give you a special discount!! Maybe something off the price or maybe free delivery?

You can place your orders by calling or sending an SMS to Chef Andi at 9725 4231.
Enjoy!!

Ramadhan Special 2014: Jurong West Bazaar

So we asked our readers for some tips on where we could find some Ramadhan Bazaars this year.
And one name seemed to pop up a lot! "Jurong West Avenue 1!!" the people said...
So okay let's go check it out.

And this is what we found!

Tahu Telor - Convenience Packs!
Popiah Sambal
Goreng Pisang
Kuih Muih
Roti Kirai

There was this stall called S Kitchen. Their banner boasted Nasi Lemak and something called Mee Gombak (anyone has any idea what that is??) plus the usual favourites like Mee Goreng/Kway Tiow Goreng Kerang, Roti John and even Carrot Cake.

And just beside it was a stall called Pondok Abang with more crowd faves.

Chee Cheong Fun
Tahu Telor
Here's something interesting... and a little weird to be honest.
We saw a stall selling Popiah Basah but it wasn't the usual fillings...

So instead of the usual stewed turnip, they've replaced it with a turnip/cucumber/carrot salad instead.
Plus something that looks like fish crackers for added crunch perhaps?

Well, I'm not sure about you but I like my Popiah Basah to be the traditional type.

Saw a kebab place with a long queue. Popular choice?
Including dishes like Butter Rice and Sabsuka too!

The one thing that our readers kept recommending was the nasi campur at this bazaar.
There were a lot of stalls selling Nasi Campur but one was apparently more popular than the rest.
Well, our readers could not recall the name but there was this one stall with the longest line and also the most dishes on display...

Hati Ayam
Bagedil

As you can see - lots of dishes on offer at RS Supreme Foodlink!
So many more dishes but there was such a crowd that I couldn't get close enough to snap more pics!

But make no mistake, this was not the only stall selling Nasi Campur and all the lauk-pauk everyone loves so much!

But of course if Nasi Campur is not your thing...

Saw the sign but didn't see any Churros :(

So Jurong West is one of the bigger bazaars we've been. I guess it's comparable in size to the Tampines one when it used to be at the block near Tampines Stadium a few years ago.

I guess it does have quite a bit of stuff and it's useful if you're staying in the area.
There's not really anything here that would make me travel all the way to Jurong just for the bazaar I guess.

But definitely one of the bazaar with the MOST Nasi Camput stalls ever!!
