Mooncakes Special 2014 - PrimaDeli

Next up our special Mooncakes series this year is the collection from Prima Deli!
I know that Prima Deli is the name that comes to mind when you wanna get cakes and waffles (!!) but they also make some pretty good mooncakes too! And we're going to run them down with you!

That picture above is from Prima Deli's website and gives you a view of all the mooncakes they have to offer. Looks good right? But do they look like that when you buy them too?

So there are 9 exciting and pretty interesting flavours for you to enjoy in their box set. They also have traditional flavours like Pure Lotus and White Lotus with Yolks but we're gonna cover just the special edition flavours they have okay.

And for you fans of Snowskin Mooncakes, you'll be happy to hear that they're ALL Snowskin!!
And they're also Mini mooncakes so you'll be able to sample them all without being too full.
So let's go through them one by one.

Mini Green Apple
Mini Orange with Valrhona Chocolate Pearls
Mini Soursop with Guava
Mini Black Sesame with Mochi
Mini Strawberry Chocolate
Mini D24 Durian
Mini Mango Lemongrass
Mini Oreo Chocolate
Mini Cranberry Cheese
So there you have it! 9 special flavour creations from PrimaDeli for this Mid-Autumn Festival!

Of all the 9, I have to say that the Mini D24 Durian was definitely the best. You can really taste the durian! The Mini Mango Lemongrass came in second place (most probably because I happen to like Lemongrass!) The rest of the mooncakes were... well...

I have to say that I found the mooncakes very sweet. A little too overwhelmingly sweet to be honest. And even though I have a sweet tooth and these were just mini mooncakes, I still found myself feeling very 'muak' after awhile.

Maybe this is partly because I kinda like the traditional baked mooncakes. And on top of that, I prefer the traditional Lotus Paste variety. Never really took a fancy to the whole snowskin craze. I can see why people like it but I guess I'll never catch on.

And and here's a tip - make sure you keep them refrigerated because the snowskin will go really soft and mushy on you really really quickly.

You can drop by any PrimaDeli to pick up your mooncakes.
They have some special discounts up til 8 September and Citibank cardholders get some extras too.

So if you like fruity and sweet Snowskin Mooncakes - head down to PrimaDeli!!

Prima Deli: Mother's Day Special 2014

Advertorial

Abundant Love (back) & Pink of Roses (front)

PrimaDeli is back again with some great cakes to celebrate with someone who definitely deserves some cake and so much more - MOTHERS!!

That's right! Mother's day is back again (11th May 2014 for those who were wondering) and mums definitely deserve to sit back and relax. The least we can do to reward them is spend some time with them and celebrate with some cake!

If you remember, we celebrated Mother's Day last year with PrimaDeli (read HERE)
PrimaDeli offers us 2 fine cake creations this year to satisfy varying tastes. One to satisfy any chocolate lover and one for those who prefer something a little bit more light on the palate but no less decadent.

Pink Of Roses ($26.00)
The Pink Of Roses cakes is a definite choice for mums who LOVE CHOCOLATE!!
It looks pink on the outside but underneath the fresh cream roses, you'll find a luscious chocolate sponge cake covered with a rich chocolate ganache.

Mouth watering yet? (Cos mine is!)
Cake weighs approximately 600g by the way.

Abundance of Love ($48.40)
The one got to personally try is called Abundance of Love and I think you can see why!
This cake is packo full of goodies and a little of bit of something for everyone to enjoy!
Let me give you a better view...

Whoa! Take a look at that!

Peach slices, Strawberries, Kiwi, Gooseberries and white chocolate flowers on top!
The sides of the cakes are lined with white chocolate 'wooden planks' so it looks like you're delivering a box of flowers and fruits to mum! Creative or what!

The cake itself is a moist Vanilla sponge with Salted Caramel Cream, almond flakes and chocolate pearls to give it a little bit more bite. This one weighs about 1.2kg.

I quite actually enjoyed the cake. I guess it's a break from the usual chocolate cakes we normally have so it's nice to have a bit of variety. Lots of new and unique cakes out there nowadays and this is definitely one of them!

Both Pink of Roses and Abundance of Love cakes will be available from 17th April (NOW) til 11th May 2014 (Mother's Day itself) so plenty of time but don't wait til the last minute! Sekali sold out how!!

Anyways you need to place your order at least 3 days in advance so be sure to order by 8th May latest to avoid disappointment. You can visit your nearest PrimaDeli or call 6276-3333 to place your orders. More information can be found at www.primadeli.com

Mid-Autumn Festival - Halal Mooncakes

So we were a little late in thinking about it this year but it seems the response was pretty good when we asked our readers via our FB page if they'd like to see a write-up on Halal Mooncakes.

I guess it shouldn't be much of a surprise because there are so many places offering Halal-certified Mooncakes nowadays and so many exciting new flavours too!

Well even though we didn't have enough time to go hunting, we thought we'd let you in on some places which offer Halal mooncakes. Hopefully you'll have just enough time to grab a box or two!

First on our list is none other than one of our favourite places - Prima Deli!

Snowskin vs Baked
I guess in recent times, more and more people have started leaning towards the newer type of Snowskin Mooncakes while there are still plenty who prefer the old-school Baked version...
The good news is - Prima Deli has both!!

I guess one of the main draws of Snowskin Mooncakes is the wide variety of exciting and interesting (albeit not-so-traditional) flavours compared to the typical (and some say boring) flavours of traditional Baked Mooncakes.

Well, between you and me, I'm more of a traditional guy myself.
Red/White Lotus with Double Yolk for me any time!

Royal Gift Set ($41.80)
If you're one of those people who are adventurous with your mooncake flavours and/or have a liking for the Snowskin version of mooncakes then there's some good news for you!

You get 9 mini-mooncakes in an attractive special package for $41.80.
The flavours are Mini Chocolate Truffle with Macadamia, Mini Mango Lemongrass, Mini Black Sesame with Mochi, Mini Strawberry Chocolate, Mini Pistachio, Mini Cranberry Cheese, Mini Oreo Chocolate, Mini Lychee and the Mini D24 Durian mooncake which is rated as "One of the Best 6 Durian Snowskin Mooncake in Singapore".

But if you're not getting the gift box, then you can also buy individual mooncakes no problem.
Prices range from between $4.50-$8.20 per mini-mooncake for the Snowskin variety. Regular size mooncakes range from between $10.50-$17.90 per mooncake.

If you purchase before 19 September, you enjoy a 10% discount (conditions apply) with further discounts for Citibank Credit Cardmembers and Prima Privilege Card holders.
Visit www.primadeli.com/promotions/promo_Mid-Autumn.asp for more info!

The 2nd place we're featuring is Concorde Hotel which offers mostly traditional-style Halal mooncakes.

No fancy Snowskin here. Familiar mooncakes include Pure/White Lotus with Yolk(s) and are sold in boxes of four mooncakes. Prices range from between $54.00 to $62.00.

They do however have 2 special and new flavours.
The Pearl of Prosperity mooncake is "a Cantonese pastry skin covering a pandan lotus paste mixed with mung bean and golden salted half egg yolk." while The Imperial Ivory mooncake is "a creamy milky butter pastry skin with winter melon paste made of chunky dried longan and melon kernel seeds, mixed with macadamia bits in single yolk." Prices for these 2 are $58.00 for a box of 4.

Discounts are offered if you purchase multiple boxes of mooncakes.
Visit http://singapore.concordehotelsresorts.com/promotions_view.php?promo_id=48305 for more info!

Last but certainly not least is a place you would probably not think of when it comes to mooncakes...

Delifrance is offering some Halal mooncakes in some very interesting flavours!

White Lotus with QQ Milky Green Bean, Pure Lotus with Melon Seed, Mango Lotus Paste with Diced Mango, Walnut Tiramisu, Pandan Lotus with Custard and White Chocolate with Cranberry Paste are up for grabs. Some pretty interesting flavours like I said.

Price for each mooncake is $10.80 per piece or buy a box of 4 for $42.80.

Well folks. Sorry we didn't have more time to do more research (aka Mooncake hunting) and we didn't even have the chance to sample some mooncakes to review. We thought we'd better release what info we had first since there's still time for you to go out and grab some.

Besides, why waste time talking when you can be out there makan-ing!! Am I right?

So if anyone does try out any mooncakes or if you know of any other places offering Halal mooncakes, please do let us know! We'd love to heard from you!

Ramadhan Special 2013: PrimaDeli Hari Raya Promotion

Advertorial

Are you ready for some Hari Raya goodies?!

PrimaDeli is offering up some delicious and tasty treats for us this Hari Raya.
Now you can treat your guests and yourselves to a taste that we all love during Raya!

Look at all the goodies!!
PrimaDeli is known for its sweet treats especially during the festive seasons here in Singapore and it's no wonder too! Their treats are loved by so many for obvious reasons!

This Raya they have some special promo on for all of us.

Premium Pandan Chiffon, Butter Cake, Marble Cake & Lapis Surabaya
Deluxe Almond, Oatmeal Raisin & Chocolate Tart Cookies
Kuih Lapis
A staple during Raya is Kuih Lapis for sure!
It's definitely a skill that some of our parents, grandparents and generations before them definitely perfected over the decades. It's not easy okay!

Well, if you don't have the opportunity to bake your own Lapis this year, you'd be hard-pressed to find one that is better than PrimaDeli's out there in the shops. A 1kg Kuih Lapis should probably last through all the guests coming to visit plus save some for yourself of course! :P

But be sure to pre-order early okay.
This Kuih Lapis is so popular that you can expect it to sell out in advance.
(Kuih Lapis is only on sale from 27 July onwards)

Pillow Pineapple Tarts
Now here's something that is actually my favourite among all the treats from PrimaDeli if I may say so.

I'm quite a sucker for Pineapple Tarts. Since I was a kid, I'd sample the tarts at all the houses I visited but of course we're talking about the traditional round-shaped tarts. You know which ones I'm referring to right?
Let's face it. Hari Raya = Pineapple Tarts for sure.

Well I never really picked-up on these Pineapple Tarts that are kinda shaped like pillows until my Mum introduced me to them. She absolutely swore by them but of course I stuck to my traditional tarts.
Until one day I finally tried one and I was hooked! I guess Mum really knows best!!

These Pillow Pineapple Tarts from PrimaDeli are absolutely the bomb!
The crust is so light, flaky and buttery that it almost melts in your mouth. And then you reach the sweet centre made up of that delicious pineapple filling. YUMMY!

And it doesn't only look good in that picture by the way...

Thought we'd keep some for Raya but errr it's all gone!! Hahaha.
It's just so addictive that you pop one in your mouth and you just wanna take another one!

And my Mum absolutely loves the case it comes in!
Well I can guarantee you we will be getting a few more tins for Raya by the looks of it.
Hopefully we can save some for our guests :P

Here's the price list for all the items featured in this post;

Butter / Marble Cake - $5.70 per loaf
Premium Pandan Chiffon - $5.90 (Standard) / $10.90 (Large)
Lapis Surabaya (Original/Chocolate/Pandan) - $12.80
Kueh Lapis (approx 1.1kg) - $42.80
Pillow Pineapple Tarts - $14.80 per tin
Festive Cookies (Deluxe Almond / Oatmeal Raisin / Chocolate Tart) - $14.80 per tin

And if that's not enough - enjoy 15% ALL Hari Raya goodies all the way til 8 August!
PrimaCard holders enjoy an additional 3% off and Citibank cardholders 8% off and 10% Citi Rebate* (*Conditions apply)

If you're getting any of the treats please do invite me to your place for Raya but beware your Pillow Pineapple Tarts are in danger if I come over! Hahaha!

So drop by your nearest PrimaDeli now or call 6276 3333 if you have any enquiries.

Prima Deli: Mother's Day Special

Advertorial

Happy Mother's Day!!!
For those of you who had any doubts, please kindly allow me to confirm it for you.
Mother's Day falls on the 2nd Sunday of May every year. This year, it falls on 12th May 2013.
OMG that's only one week away!

Well fret not there is still time for you to go and get your Mum something nice.
And for those of you who might be having problems coming up with some ideas, we have just the thing!

This Mother's Day, Prima Deli would like to celebrate with you by offering some sweet treats!
They are offering 3 different varieties of cakes specially prepared for Mother's Day!

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to try one of the cakes being offered for this special offer.

Yummy Yam Cake
So one of the choices is the Yummy Yam Cake.

It's vanilla sponge with fresh yam and sago filling and all covered in vanilla fresh cream.
Those letters and hearts/stars you see on the cake are - Pink Chocolate!

When I first saw the word "Yam" and "Cake", my first thought was " Whoa! Seriously?!" and I'm guessing that some of you are probably having the same reaction right now. Well, fret not.
The yam and sago cream filling was absolutely fine. You can tell it's Yam but it is not overpowering at all.
The sponge cake was so fluffy and light that even my Mum enjoyed it! (And she's not really a cake-eater)

Anyways, for those of you who are not fans of Yam, Prima Deli is also offering Black Forest and Mixed Fruit variations of their special Mother's Day cakes so your dearest Mum is going to be spoiled for choice!
And the best part is - Prima Deli is 100% Halal-certified!!

It's $39.80 for a 1kg cake if it's Black Forest or Mixed Fruit and it's $22.80 for a 540gm Yummy Yam Cake. For the quality you're getting, that's a great deal!
Plus! You also get 2 bottles of Brands Bird's Nest absolutely free! Great deal!

These special cakes are available from 26 April til Mother's Day (12 May) so get cracking!
But one important thing to note is that you need to order at least 3 days in advance. That means that the last order they can take will be 10 May which is 3 days before Mother's Day.

So give your sweet Mum a sweet treat this Mother's Day!

Call Prima Deli at 6276 3333 or pop by any of their outlets if you have any enquiries.
