Al-Tasneem Restaurant - Murtabak Rusa

So we had just returned from our KL trip and arrived in SG at night.
We actually wanted to have some Bone Steak at M.A Deen Biasa but after a long walk - discovered it's under renovations!

So we walked a little further at chanced upon Al-Tasneem.

We had some Bone Steak after all (Look out for the special Bone Steak Battles coming soon!) and we also ordered something that none of us have had before...

Murtabak Rusa ($10.00)
So Deer meat (aka Venison) is not really something you see everyday at your local Mamak stall am I right?
I'm thinking it's more like Italian or some western cooking for that kinda thing but here we were with some Murtabak Rusa for the first time.

The size of the murtabak itself is about the size of a $5-6 mutton/chicken murtabak I reckon so the Rusa seems to almost double the price of your dish.

You can see that it's minced up really finely and spread out sparingly in your murtabak.
To be honest, the meat itself was actually pretty salty when I tried it on its own.

It wasn't overpoweringly salty on its own but unfortunately, the curry that was served together with the murtabak was salty. Seriously salty. So when you put the two together, SALT OVERLOAD!

Azim commented that the texture kinda reminded him of floss. As in like beef/chicken floss.
Razali added that for the price we were paying, we expected a more generous serving of the meat. (Everyone seems to agree with that one) Plus with it being so dry, perhaps the cooking style of frying might not be suitable since we haven't really mastered how to cook Venison like the Westerners do.

Adam's Verdict:
Murtabak Rusa 3/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Murtabak Rusa 3/5

Razali's Verdict:
Murtabak Rusa 3.5/5

Azim's Verdict:
Murtabak Rusa 4/5

Overall, we'd say that this is definitely something different for you to try.
"Murtabak? Chicken? Mutton? How about Rusa?!" Be adventurous!!

Just hope that the salt level goes down a little.

KL Sedap Part 5: Shimino Japanese Crepes

So at the top level of Pavilion shopping mall, there's a small section they call Tokyo Street.
You can find all kinds of Japanese-inspired shops there like fashion, accessories and even food.
There's even a shop that specializes in selling traditional Japanese tea including all the pots and utensils.

It's actually pretty nice to talk a walk around

One of those shops selling makan is this place called Shimino Japanese Crepes.
Japanese and Crepes are not 2 words I normally put together...
So how different is a Japanese Crepe from a Non-Japanese Crepe? Well let's find out...

And to help us find out we have our fellow guest reviewers;

Azim & Razali
As you can tell, they've got smiles on their faces so the crepes must nice right?

Fresh Mango & Honey Crepe (RM8.90)
Fresh Strawberry & Chocolate Sauce Crepe (RM8.90)
So the first thing you notice is that the crepes are made into a cone shape which makes it easy to eat on the go. Try to think of it as like you're having an ice-cream or something.

The crepes itself are made to order which means you get it fresh. I guess they kinda have to make it fresh because the crepes would definitely be sucky if they we made then left to sit waiting for orders.

Whatever filling you choose, you can actually mix and match what else goes in the crepe.
Fro example, ours was actually a Fresh Strawberry and Honey crepe but we opted for the Chocolate Sauce instead and they top it off with toppings like almond flakes, peanuts, rainbow sprinkles etc.
But the one thing that you should leave alone is the fresh cream that is packed with the filling.

I actually thought it was going to be just whipped cream out of the can or something but it really was a nice surprise that it was FRESH cream! And they're not stingy with the filling as you can see. Packed full of sweet strawberries!

And they actually have wide varieties of crepes to choose from.
Classics like Banana Chocolate, Peaches, Kiwi and Pineapple and all ready for you to eat.
They also have more interesting flavours like Mandarin Orange and Coffee Jelly!

And in case you feel like having some savoury crepes instead, they have flavours like Roast Beef, Chicken Teriyaki, Roast Duck and Seafood Mayo.

Adam's Verdict:
Fresh Strawberry & Chocolate Sauce Crepe 4/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Fresh Strawberry & Chocolate Sauce Crepe 3.5/5

Razali's Verdict:
Fresh Mango & Honey Crepe 3.5/5

Azim's Verdict:
Fresh Mango & Honey Crepe 3.5/5

Well I'm not sure if it's different from any other crepe I've had but it's still a good dessert nonetheless.
Just try to maintain when you eat... Like Azim.

Phuket Power! Part 1: Banana Pancake

Just across the street from our hotel (White Sand Resortel), there's this guy and his cart.
And he sells pancakes.

Muhammad Hassan is his name. Remember his face.
He actually used to work in Singapore making (you guessed it) pratas!
So by Banana Pancake, we meat the sorta-like-prata type not the flour-crepe type.

Banana Nutella Pancake (฿60)
Tell me that doesn't looks appetizing.
You've got Banana and Nutella wrapped in the thin crisp pancake and condensed milk drizzled on top.
YUMMY!

If the first picture didn't get you then I'm sure this one did.

You actually have a wide range of choices for your pancake.
He's got

Banana + Chocolate
Banana + Nutella
Banana + Honey
Banana + Cinnamon
Banana + Peanut Butter
Honey + Lemon + Sugar
Coconut + Chocolate
Banana + Coconut
Banana + Chocolate + Coconut
Egg + Banana + Chocolate
Banana + Blueberry + Chocolate
Banana + Pineapple + Chocolate
Banana + Honey + Starwberry
Egg + Cheese + Cinnamon
Egg + Banana + Raisins
Banana + Nutella + Chocolate

OMG. Choose wisely because you probably can't try every single one in your one trip.

No bananas were harmed in the making of this pancake.
And even if there were, they all went to heaven.

Banana Chocolate Pancake (฿40)
There's a difference between Nutella and Chocolate obviously.
If you can't decide, then maybe you can try the Nutella + Chocolate + Banana one.
I wish I had...

I actually tried the Honey + Lemon + Sugar pancake.
It was pretty tasty and definitely different but it didn't have the same kick because there was no filling.
I'm guessing anything with Banana would be a minimum choice.

Adam's Verdict:
Banana Nutella Pancake 4/5 -- Honey Lemon Sugar Pancake 2/5

Azlan's Verdict:
Banana Nutella Pancake 4/5

Raffiq's Verdict:
Banana Chocolate Pancake 3.5/5

John's Verdict:
Banana Chocolate Pancake 5/5

If you're in Phuket, this is a must try!
There'll be plenty of the same type of stalls but not all Halal so look carefully okay.
