Yip's by Andik Nurdiany - Festive Cookies

Advertorial

Hey guys you remember our first post on Yip's by Andik Nurdiany and some of the pastry goodies we tried right? Well, not only do they have more pastries for us to try (soon), they also have a wide range of Festive Cookies for us to enjoy!!

Well, they've actually got a lot more variety than that but we're gonna go through just some with you now including a very very unique and special one! I think we'll save that one for last! (kasi suspense sikit)

Okay let's start from the top.

Pineapple Tarts ($16.00 per bottle)
It doesn't matter what festive season it might be.
Chinese New Year? Hari Raya? Deepavali? Christmas? You're almost definitely going to see some Pineapple Tarts somewhere or rather. I think there's just something about Pineapple Tarts that connect us all. They come in all funny shapes and sizes and version nowadays but in the end, it's a Pineapple Tart.

Yip's Pineapple Tarts are definitely very generous with the pineapple filling as you can see.
The ratio of pineapple to pastry is pretty much even from what we gather and no complaints from us!
The pineapple filling itself is not too sweet and the pastry is buttery but does not overwhelm you.
Just the right balance for those who prefer a lighter snack!

We normally have a hard time finding a decent traditional Pineapple Tart nowadays and often buy a different version (as you may have read from our previous posts) but at least now we know where we can get some steady Pineapple Tarts!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Cheddar Cheese Biscuits ($18.00 per bottle)
I love cheese. And I love cheesy pastries and cookies.
I've had some pretty decent cheese cookies in the past but this was definitely something different.

Yip's version is kinda like a flower biscuit shape opposed to the type I normally have which is in stick version. But the good news is - it's still cheesy! It's not the strong salty type of cheese taste which is going to make you 'muak' so fast. This one is kind of salty-sweet and buttery and the cranberry piece on top gives you a nice sweet hint at the end.

I kept popping this one by one by one. Simply could not stop!!

Macadamia Nut Chocolate Chip Cookies ($16.00 per bottle)
This was my darling wife's favourite and I can see why!

Delicious chocolate taste when you chomp down on the cookies. The cookie dough is chocolate and you'll also get the chocolate chips embedded within! And if that's no enough, macadamia nut halves! And as you can see, they're not stingy with the macadamia nuts okay! If you don't see one on the surface, it's probably hiding from you within the cookie!!

Macadamia Nut Butter Cookies ($17.00 per bottle)
If you're not such a big chocolate fan (sure or not???), do not fret!

Yip's also has a butter version for those that still want to enjoy macadamia nut cookies without the chocolate element. Pure butter enjoyment waiting for you here! AND LOOK AT THOSE NUTS!!

And here's a fact for you - Yip's uses ONLY BUTTER in all their cookies, puffs and pastries! No margarine allowed!!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Almond Cookies ($18.00 per bottle)
This was the bomb. And the bombs went in my mouth!

I've always been a fan of crumbly almond cookies and I can safely say we've come across one of the best here. Nice little bite-sized pieces of almond and butter goodness that you're probably not going to be able to stop from eating if you're a big fan of almond cookies.

That's a view of the inside of the cookie. I took half a bite and took a closer look inside.
If you look closely, you can see the layers of almond nut flakes that are packed into that little cookie.
No wonder it's so nutty and buttery!

And I'm not kidding you - I'm literally eating these cookies as I type this review out!

Anyways now we've come to the special cookies that we mentioned at the beginning of our post.
Are you ready? ***JENG JENG JENG***

Cereal Prawn Cookies ($18.00 per bottle)
When I first saw this posted on their Instagram, the first thought that came to my mind was "Wow. That's very errrrr... interesting!" because I've never come across a Cereal Prawn Cookie before!

And let me tell you, these unique little cookies are really something else! It's not just hype and gimmick here because these cookies really pack a punch! Nestum, Japanese dried prawns, curry leaves and CHILLI PADI make up this cookie. No wonder it's so full of flavour and is actually quite spicy!

Take a big whiff and you're gonna get a strong smell of chilli and dried prawns that's gonna get your taste buds activated. These little cookies actually remind me of those little mini Prawn Popiahs we have.
My Mum absolutely loved these cookies and the spicy factor they bring. A nice savoury taste and then chilli kicks in. I believe you chilli lovers out there will like this too!

Yip's by Andik Nurdiany is really taking things by storm here. We've tried some of the pastries and it was the bomb and now their cookies are the bomb too!

And the best thing is they have so many more things that we haven't had the chance to include in this review!
Love Letters, Cornflake and Raisin cookies, Sugi, Honeycomb and even Almond Bienetta to name a few. And they even have cookies that are 100% Vegetarian-friendly!
Looks like we have a lot more to try at Yips!

So whether it's for the festive season, looking for a gift for someone or even just buying some snacks for yourself and the family, you should definitely check out Yips! You can check out their FB page, Instagram or their website. Look for the Yip's logo on the right hand sidebar of our blog. Click on it and immediately be transported to their site where you can find a full list of their goodies and mouth-watering pics too!

Yip's by Andik Nurdiany

So we received a message awhile back to visit a makan place called Yip's.

Apparently 'Yip's Cookies & More' had been around for years before the current Chef De Patisserie (aka Makan Mastermind), Andik Nurdiany, took over to continue the fine art of the tasty pastry and original mouth-watering creations baked freshly on-site!!

One fine day after a check-up, we finally had the chance to sample some tasty treats.

Chilli Ikan Bilis Puff ($2.00)
We started off with something that I seem to have taken a liking to recently - Sambal Ikan Bilis!
And it's not that often I find something unique that incorporates this spicy-sweet favourite of many.

The pastry itself was simply marvelous. As a Home Ec student myself in secondary school, I know how much work it takes to perfect your pastry making and we're talking about professional baking here. Light and buttery (not oily) flavour once you chomp down. Loads of Ikan Bilis to keep you company.

And for those of you who get worried when the words 'Sambal' and 'Chilli' appear, don't worry.
The description says 'Spice - MILD' so you can breathe a sigh of relief. The Sambal Ikan Bilis is full of flavour but will not burn your mouth off.

In fact, I'd say it was more on the sweet side than the spicy side.

Tom Yam Chicken Puff ($2.00)
As most of you probably know by now, I love Thai food and my darling wife follows suit.
So how exactly do you expect us to not try something that has TOM YAM in the name???

And they really don't fool around with the Tom Yam. I guessing it's something they concocted because this is potent stuff. Tom Yam flavour definitely shoots through!

Shredded chicken meat bursting with Tom Yam flavour.
But like the Chilli Ikan Bilis Puff, you might consider sharing with someone unless you're really hungry.

I'm a greedy guy but even I shared because I wanted to have enough space to try a little bit of everything.

Lo Bo Ping aka Sweetheart Cake ($1.30)
Yip's doesn't just offer only savoury pastries by the way.
They have a wide variety of pastries to satisfy anyone who has a sweet-tooth.

One good example is the Lo Bo Ping which I have only read about or seen other people eating because I had never come across a Halal version until we visited Yip's!! Now I've finally got my chance to try this HK-style pastry!

It is basically a pastry-cake with winter melon and sesame seed filling.

The filling is not overly sweet and very subtle. In fact, I thought it tasted more like pumpkin seed than sesame seed with the winter melon. The pastry was light and flaky and literally crumbled as I brought it to my mouth.
I'm not sure why they call it 'Sweetheart Cake' though... Anyone have any stories to share?? :)

Orange and Cranberry Muffin ($1.20)
Looking for some Western flavours instead?
Yip's actually has cookies, tartlets, eclairs, brownies and even muffins for you!

We could not resist trying the Orange and Cranberry Muffin. Too tempting!
The orange flavour (and aroma) was very prominent with every bite of the muffin and you'll get some cranberries every few bites. The muffin itself was moist and soft!

Definitely recommend to try this one!!

Adam's Verdict:
Chilli Ikan Bilis Puff 4/5 -- Tom Yam Puff 3/5 -- Lo Bo Ping 3.5/5
Orange and Cranberry Muffin 4.5/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Chilli Ikan Bilis Puff 4/5 -- Tom Yam Puff 3/5 -- Lo Bo Ping 2.5/5
Orange and Cranberry Muffin 3.5/5

Yip's by Andik Nurdiany has been featured in the media so many times I'm not sure how we managed to miss out on this gem tucked away in a little corner.

And even though we had received this tip so long ago, it took us quite awhile to finally visit because we east-dwellers seldom traveled to the area. But with regular check-ups at the nearby Thomson Medical Centre coming up for us, we're definitely dropping by again soon!

I can even tell you what's on my radar...
Their famous Chicken Curry Puff, Barbeque Chicken Puff, Creamy Mushroom Puff and Portugese Egg Tarts!

The Waffle Factory

So we passed by this place many many months ago but didn't pay it much mind but one day my Brother texts me and says that we simply have to check this place out.

How good did he think it was? Well, he back with me the very next day to eat more!

So I'm not sure how long The Waffle Factory has been around in the Singapore Post Centre but it seems really famous judging by all the newspaper clippings and TV show snippets adorning the walls of the outlet.
In fact, apparently they're quite famous for their All-You-Can-Eat Waffle Buffet which we had no idea about because we just had some ala-carte items.

Prawn Dumplings ($4.20 for 3 pieces)

So we started with some Dim Sum which is one of our favourite things.
Prawn Dumplings are always welcome at our table and we've had it at a few other makan places before.

You do get a pretty big piece of the prawn in the dumpling which is nice but it's also got this fish paste in there which was kinda had a dough-y taste to it (or maybe I was just being too fussy?) A nice crispy skin to go with it but a little on the extra-charred side. I'm guessing they might have re-fried it when ordered?

Fried Beancurd Roll ($4.20 for 3 pieces)

Another Dim Sum favourite of ours is the Fried Beancurd Roll which kinda has a Thai accent to it.
Nice and tightly packed with fish paste and some sweet chilli sauce to accompany it. I believe I enjoyed this more than the Prawn Dumpling actually.

But the $4.20 price tag is quite high for 3 pieces of Dim Sum I reckon.

And in case you were wondering, my Brother's all-time fave Dim Sum - Siew Mai - is strangely absent here because apparently he had some the day before and it really wasn't very good at all so we gave it a miss.

Salted Egg Custard Buns ($4.20 for 3)
This is one item my Brother and Sister-In-Law were absolutely raving about.
Something new and a little unique to us - Salted Egg Custard Buns.

It's no secret that we are HUGE fans of anything to do wit Salted Eggs and this definitely seemed like something we were going to enjoy. But please allow me to point out that this was Salted Egg Custard which means you can expect a sweet taste instead of all-Salted Egg.

But it is a thing of beauty when you crack it open though.

All that nice gooey and runny custard flowing all over the place.
Isn't that enough to get your excited? No? Well maybe the video my Brother sent me might do a better job.

Much better right??
Well anyways, like I said, it's more sweet than savoury so you know what to expect. I guess it's more of a dessert bun than anything else.

And here's a tip, be sure to eat it fresh and while it's still hot.
Because when it cools down... It's not going to be very runny anymore...

Anyways, on to the mains!

Something which I'd say is really good about the menu at The Waffle Factory is the wide variety of dishes and even different types of cuisine they offer. Everything from Nasi Lemak to HK-style Noodles to even Western Food and Pasta!

But then again, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Hong Kong Style Chicken Luncheon and Egg Noodles ($4.50)
I love the whole HK-style Noodles scene (remember this post?) and I'm glad to say that the number of Halal makan places offering it nowadays is on the up and up!

Well here's a really simple dish of noodles with some chicken luncheon meat veggies in a nice hot soup.
(This was the Spicy option by the way. You can choose the Non-Spicy as well).
Just a really satisfying bowl of comfort food for me and something I really enjoy.

By the way, you can also have the same thing in a Prawn-based soup instead.
That's what my Sister-in-Law had but would it really make much of a difference?

Sausage Springy Noodles in Prawn Soup ($5.90)
ZOMG YES IT DOES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!

The prawn stock is really rich and flavourful and it did not have any of they overly-prawny taste which I expected. A really really good bowl of noodles! Not too sure about the sausage though... This would have been perfect if they had used a better quality sausage or maybe the chicken luncheon meat?

And now that I think about it - is it really worth an extra $1.40 for the prawn soup?

Crab Claws and Mixed Seafood Pasta ($7.90)
So my Brother decided to break away from the Asian flavours of the day and had something on the Western side of the menu.

He says that it was a pretty respectable plate of pasta but I personally felt that the cream sauce was actually quite tasteless... But the one thing we agreed on is that we did not understand why they called it Crab Claws and Mixed Seafood Pasta when there was only ONE crab claw (and yes that's the small thing on the left)

Maybe he lost the other claw in a fight? Well, then bring me the winner!
(So we'll get 3 claws geddit geddit? Okay I'll just stick to eating then)

Okay time for some dessert and when you're at a place called The Waffle Factory, you're probably gonna have some waffles am I right?

Well they have 2 types of waffles on offer. One is the fresh type which they'll serve you on a plate with all the lovely toppings like berries and cream etc. And the other type is like a miniature version where theysandwich your topping of choice in between 2 waffles.

"OUR WAFFLES ARE THICKER.
MORE THAN HALF A MILLION SOLD WITH OUR SECRET WAFFLES RECIPE"

This is the sign outside and they were not kidding about the 'thicker' part.

D24 Durian Waffle ($2.50)
One of the most popular waffles on offer is the D24 Durian waffle which is delicious durian flesh in between two waffles. (See what I meant about the 'thick' part)

The durian is definitely a must-have for durian lovers.

Orange Chocolate Waffle ($1.30)
So this is actually Chocolate sauce and some Orange Marmalade.
Not at all what we expected.

Actually, by the looks of it, they are quite creative with their waffle flavours so it might be best to double check what exactly you're ordering before you actually make your decision. And they have a massive selection of waffles to choose from so you're gonna have a hard time choosing.

But as you can see from the pictures, these are not the same waffles you get from your neighbourhood bakery. These are really thick and actually very very filling. If you're having full meals then it might be a good idea to share.

The fillings are not bad but the waffles themselves are quite overwhelming.

Adam's Verdict:
Prawn Dumplings 1.5/5 -- Fried Beancurd Roll 2.5/5 -- Salted Egg Custard Buns 2.5/5
HK Style Chicken Luncheon and Egg Noodles 3/5 -- Sausage Springy Noodles in Prawn Soup 4/5
D24 Durian Waffle 4/5 -- Orange Chocolate Waffle 3/5

Azlan's Verdict:
Prawn Dumplings 1/5 -- Fried Beancurd Roll 4/5 -- Salted Egg Custard Buns 4/5
Crab Claws and Mixed Seafood Pasta 3/5 -- Sausage Springy Noodles in Prawn Soup 5/5
D24 Durian Waffle 2/5 -- Orange Chocolate Waffle 2/5

Yana's Verdict:
Prawn Dumplings 1/5 -- Fried Beancurd Roll 2.5/5 -- Salted Egg Custard Buns 4.5/5
Sausage Springy Noodles in Prawn Soup 5/5
D24 Durian Waffle 3.5/5 -- Orange Chocolate Waffle 1/5

They also have loads of other stuff on the menu that might be worth a try like the Chicken Rendang (which apparently is so tender you can eat the bones) and Crayfish Laksa!

We'll definitely be paying another visit soon!

Streats Hong Kong Cafe Part 2

We love Streats Hong Kong Cafe because
  • It has delicious HK-style makan
  • Dim Sum! Dim Sum! Dim Sum!
  • It's really near to our place (definitely a big factor)

And yes they serve Dim Sum but I'm still compiling all the different types they have so in the mean time, how about more or something else they're good at - oodles of noodles!

Nissin Spicy Noodles (Dry) with Chicken Chop ($7.20)
If you remember, I actually order the version with the Luncheon Meat normally.
Well, my darling wife felt like having noodles with a spicy kick so she settled on this.

The noodles are still the standard HK-style Nissin instant noodles we all love.
This time, they give you a spicy chilli sauce at the side to kick it up a little bit. But don't worry it's not that spicy so you don't have to worry about smoke coming out of your ears.

However, please note that the Chicken Chop is actually really big.
You might actually feel like putting it aside on a separate dish for awhile so that you can have a go at your noodles first.

HK Shrimp Dumpling Noodle (Dry) ($7.20)
ALERT!!
Shrimp Dumplings are not to be confused with Shrimp Wantons.
These are apparently 2 very different types of dumplings so please don't get the wrong idea.

As to what exactly is the difference between the Dumpling and the Wanton - I have no idea.
I must make it a point to ask them the next time we visit.

And quite honestly, the Shrimp Dumplings were not really impressive.
You do get a whole shrimp in each dumpling but taste-wise it's not really racking up any points.
Even the chicken char siew (which i love) could not redeem this dish.

Young Baby Cabbage with Salted Egg ($7.90)
When a side dish costs as much as a main dish, this means it has to be really really nice right?

Well, as lovers of salted eggs, my darling wife and I really expect to have the kick of salted eggs when we order anything with "Salted Egg' in the name of the dish. For this dish, it definitely uses the salted egg yolks in the gooey sauce which bathes the baby cabbage.

Not too bad actually but you'd better eat fast because after awhile, it starts getting to being a watery mess.
This is because they blanch the cabbage and just pour the sauce over it. This means that since the saus is only on top, any water trapped in between the cabbage is going to start seeping out and mixing with your salted egg which is a big no-no.

Lime Cooler & Iced Honey Lemon Tea ($3.80 each)
And of course, some refreshing beverages to wash down your meal.
Just a tip, you might wanna try something else if you expect a full and strong tasting drink.
These two are a little... mild.

Adam's Verdict:
HK Shrimp Dumpling Noodle (Dry) 2/5 -- Young Baby Cabbage with Salted Egg 2.5/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Nissin Spicy Noodles (Dry) with Chicken Chop 3/5 -- Young Baby Cabbage with Salted Egg 3/5

Obviously, our adventures with Streats Hong Kong Cafe are far from over.

Streats Hong Kong Cafe

Quite a number of increasing choices for us to get Halal Hong Kong-Chinese cuisine and this of course includes something we all love - Dim Sum!!

So I discovered this place called Streats Hong Kong Cafe at Downtown East.
At first I didn't realize it was Halal but a closer look shows the Halal logo displayed proudly in the front.
And they seem to really be trying to keep to the kind of Hong Kong cafe we see elsewhere BUT this one is Halal of course.

Fried Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk ($3.80)
So for appetizers we started with the pumpkin.
We did this for one simple reason - anything with salted egg yolk MUST be good right?

As far as appetizers go, this is a winner.
The pumpkin is light and preps you for the meal ahead and you can taste the salted egg.
But in my opinion, there can never be enough salted egg yolk and this one seemed a little light on the yolk.

And now for the mains!

Famous HK Fried Beef Hor Fun ($8.50)
Firstly, it's not as oily as it looks...

You can have either the gravy version or the dry version. Above is the latter.
But I should also mention that we requested that we asked for it to be "extra black" with the intention of it having extra black sweet sauce added when cooking. And we also asked for it to be "extra spicy" but the server told us that this meant they would give us a side dish of sambal meaning they could not add the sambal when frying. Isn't that weird?

Anyways my darling wife didn't really like the kway teow used. It was kinda extra thin so it didn't really have a texture we were used to. Perhaps this is also the reason why the taste wasn't so strong.
It was as if either the sweet sauce they used wasn't that sweet OR the kway teow didn't really take the flavour in when cooking. In fact, the only specific taste we could identify was saltiness.

But on the plus side - the beef was actually pretty tender.
But I'm kinda questioning the high price though. I mean, it wasn't even that big of a serving...

Nissin Noodles with Chicken Luncheon Meat & Fried Egg ($7.20)
I have this thing about Hong Kong noodles ever since I saw those old Jackie Chan kung-fu movies and also the newer HK mahjong comedies. There would always be this big bowl of noodles with meat and sometimes soup and veggies. Love it.

Even though it's the instant Nissin noodles (which I guess is the HK style) it's actually a pretty decent noodle.
Top it off with chicken luncheon meat (my favourite!!) and we have a winner. I guess it's the salty edge of the luncheon meat which I (and others I suppose) love so much. Finish it off with some kai lan and a fried egg and we're all set. If you're lucky, the yolk of the egg is cooked just nicely that the yolk is fluid enough to mix in with your noodles... YUMMY!

But after all that, I face an obvious fact - you can just make this at home!
PS you can have the dry (above) or the soup version for this as well.

Salty Plum Soda & Iced Honey Lemon ($3.80 each)
In the true HK style, some of the drinks are served in those thick glasses you see above.
This includes the coffees and teas as well.

It's quite a nice touch actually. But unfortunately that's about all that's nice about them...
The sour plum was a little bit TOO sour even though it was just two sour plums in soda water.
And the Iced Honey Lemon? It's just some honey and two slices of lemon in iced water.
Tasteless.

Adam's Verdict:
Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk 2.5/5 --  Noodles with Chicken Luncheon Meat & Fried Egg 3/5
Iced Honey Lemon 1/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk 2/5 -- Famous HK Fried Beef Hor Fun 1/5 -- Sour Plum Soda 1/5

I actually like Streats. Most likely because it's so close my house.
You Korea-mania fans will be happy to know that they have a TV playing K-Pop music videos.
I'll probably go back there. For the Dim Sum menu. Not the K-Pop.

Tang Tea House - HK Stewed Beef Noodles & HK Beef Kway Teow (No. 400)

I love Tang Tea House.

It has 2 things which I can confirm rock to the max.

  1. The Roasted Chicken (which I will review another time)
  2. Super Cooler (Don't ask. Just order.)

But you all know I'm a sucker for some beef when I see it.
So I decided to have a go at something on the menu that always catches my eye.

HK Stewed Beef Noodles ($6.00)

When I see this kind of noodle dish with a dark gravy like that, I'm immediately going to think of this Stewed Chicken Feet dish my dad makes at home. It's stewed with these herbs til the meat (or in our case, chicken feet) is so tender it's literally falling apart.

And in this case, the gravy is pretty close to what I had in mind.
It was very tasty (if you like the Chinese Herb Stew kind of taste) and this goes very well with the noodles.

But when you see the word 'Stewed' you're going to expect whatever it is being 'stewed' to be soft and tender because, well, stewing takes a longer time so the meat has enough time to break down.

Well the gravy may have been good but that's about all that was good.

Now I know you can't tell from the picture but trust me - that's one tough piece of meat.

And I'm quite surprised at how tough the beef actually was!
I'm talking about literally having to use a considerable amount of effort to tear apart that piece of meat with my teeth. I mean, it's fine if we're talking about a roast or a steak but this is supposed to be a piece of meat that was supposedly 'stewed'.

My sister-in-law, Yana, says that she's had this before and apparently it's improved since the last time.
I'd hate to have had it before the improvement lah like that.

Hmmmmm.....
Well FYI, that dumpling you see on the plate is nothing special either.
So you're paying quite a high price for some noodles and tough pieces of meat. And 2 dumplings.

Well  my brother had something else with 'HK' and 'Beef' in the name.

HK Beef Kway Teow (No. 400) ($5.00)

So my brother say this is the bomb.
The dish is tasty. The beef is super tender (No, it was not stewed) and he apparently loves it so much that even the bean sprouts are crunchy.

I personally think it looks a little dry (I prefer my kway teow a little on the wet side) but I tasted a few mouthfuls and it's not bad taste-wise. This was the 'Dry' version by the way. Maybe I'll try the other version next time just for comparison.

And yes - the beef was tender-er.

Adam's Verdict:
HK Stewed Beef Noodles 1.5/5

Yana's Verdict:
HK Stewed Beef Noodles 1.5/5

Azlan's Verdict:
HK Beef Kway Teow (No. 400) 5/5

Well did I get a bad batch of stewed beef? Maybe it's not always that tough?
Well I'll probably never find out unless someone else orders it next time.

So many choices at Tang Tea House. Look out for more reviews for this place in future!

Fork & Spoon Toa Payoh - HK Beef Noodles

My mum used to work around the area of the HDB Hub in Toa Payoh once upon a many years ago.
And she told me about 2 things that were absolutely a MUST to makan there.
One was a Rojak shop that was so popular that it had a 'queue number' system and the other was a Beef Noodle stall at Fork Spoon.

And since my first taste all those years ago, I always seem to go back for the same thing.
Even though I may order something different, the basics are the same - noodles, beef & gravy.

(Dry) Beef & Tendon Noodles ($5.50)

(Dry) Beef Noodles ($4.50)

Oh boy just looking at it whets my appetite.
Yum yum yum.

Tender Beef
Okay so I USED to order just the normal Beef Noodles but I've upgraded to have some tendon in the mix as well!!

You actually have a few choices to make when you step up the stall...

Firstly - do you want the Dry (with a thick soy and beefy gravy as seen above) or the Soup. I've never really had the Soup version before so I can't really help you there. Obviously I prefer the Dry.

Secondly - what type of noodles do you want? They have 3 options for you namely kway teow, the wantan-type of noodles and also the thick bee hoon which is the actual default noodle when you order Beef Noodles at most places I guess.

Thirdly - what you want with your noodles. Beef? Beef with Tendon? Beef with Tripe?
Choices choices choices!!!

So depending on your taste I guess some of you might choose something different but it's probably going to include the beef right... And you can see from the picture above, that's one tender piece of beef.
I understand from asking around that most the Beef Noodle stalls elsewhere actually have thinly slice beef strips which are quickly blanched so this is obviously something different. If you ask me, this is technically more of a Stewed Beef Noodle. But stewed or blanched or whatever it's still delicious lah.

Beef Tendon
I don't know when exactly I became a fan of tendon to be honest. Must be something I picked up from my Mum & Dad.

But not just ANY tendon will do.
This particular tendon is so soft that I had to pierce it with my chopstick to hold it up for the picture because it kept sliding off like a piece of jelly. That's how soft it is.

So for you fans of tendon - REJOICE!!

Sorry I can't tell you guys anything about the Tripe version of the noodles though. Maybe some tripe fans can try it out and let me know how it is... Err.. is there anyone out there that likes tripe in the first place???

Well I don't know it this is considered an "authentic" Beef Noodle dish... but it sure as hell is a delicious one in my books and I'd have it over and over again for sure.

Adam's Verdict:
Beef & Tendon (Dry) Noodles 4/5

Maryah's Verdict:
Beef  (Dry) Noodles 3/5

Things have definitely changed over the years though.
Price has gone up by $0.50 across the board . They used to put Kai Lan instead of cabbage.
But... the beef is still the bomb.
